If winter's not here yet, it’s definitely coming. What better way to embrace the cold than experience some of Canada’s most sought out activities? Keep an eye out for the snow, and stay tuned for opening dates.


For those of you who didn’t already know, at the Campus Ice Centre students can skate for free! Weekdays from noon to 2 p.m. (with some exceptions) are dedicated to leisure skate. If you would like to bring a friend with you, it’s only $2 . If you’re looking to get involved, you can also check out the Ice Centre for shinny dates and times.

‘Tis the season, of diverse and exciting multicultural holidays! December can get a little hectic, even aside from having end-of-semester exams, many of us are visiting with friends and family or simply melting on the couch.

At UOIT , we have a rich community of diversity that should be acknowledged and shared. Although I may not be able to cover all the celebrations taking place at this time of year, taking the time to learn about one or two that are unfamiliar to you will positively impact the cultural awareness in our community.

Six ways Durham Region is expanding for the better

If you live, work or go to school in Durham Region, you’re in the middle of witnessing a massive socio-economic change. Some of you may have noticed major construction and re-construction sites in some of Oshawa’s busiest spots. This is because the city is on the radar of eager investors and developers. The Toronto Star acknowledged its growth a couple years ago calling Oshawa the ‘GTA’s final frontier for development’. Since then, we have seen new bustling businesses appear like Smoke’s Poutinerie, Core21 and the Spark Centre. Not to forget the growth of existing businesses like the General Motors Centre, the Ontario Court of Justice, Lakeridge Health and Ontario Power Generation.

Feeling Thankful?

Many of us spent this past weekend with friends and family, celebrating the preceding year of accomplishments, milestones, adventures and relationships. It’s an opportunity to appreciate the small things that keep us moving each day, the things that protect, nourish, motivate and comfort us. 

For myself, I know that most days the things that are most important are taken for granted. It’s not every day I look up at my roof and think how grateful I am to be sheltered, tell my family how much they mean to me and how thankful I am that they are in good health. I certainly have not expressed to my kittens how much I enjoy their companionship. In passing, these are things that seem normal and not a privilege. But to others, they may seem unimaginable.
