Name: Emily Rowsell

Program of study: Political Science with a minor in Communications and Digital Media Studies

Year of study: Third

Why did you choose your program? I was originally in Communications and Digital Media Studies and one of the professors in the Political Science program mentioned that I could switch programs if I wanted, since I had received As in three of the core Political Science classes my first year. I was told it was a competitive program with opportunities for students to be pioneers in shaping the course of the program, so I decided to make the change!

Winner of the Oshawa Centre blog contest announced

Posted by Hunter the Ridgeback on May 3, 2016 at 9:54 AM

A few weeks ago one of our awesome bloggers Sara Stephen wrote a blog about the Oshawa Centre (OC) expansion and redevelopment. She asked current and future UOIT students what new store they'd like to see at the OC for a chance to win a $100 gift card. Today we have a winner!

Congratulations to Sam Little, a third year Communications and Digital Media Studies student, who was randomly selected from over 70 comments! Sam said in her comment that she'd like to see an Anthropologie at the new and improved Oshawa Centre. Great choice, Sam - email us at futurestudent@uoit.ca to claim your prize.

Admissions 2016 update

Posted by Hunter the Ridgeback on March 22, 2016 at 2:11 PM

It's that time of year when students have lots of questions...

  • How many days until summer vacation?
  • How do I make it look like I understand Shakespeare in my English essay?
  • Why are there so many letters in math class?

Maybe you're asking some of these too...

Ask Hunter: What can I expect from university homework?

Posted by Hunter the Ridgeback on November 13, 2015 at 3:51 PM

Happy weekend future Ridgebacks!

This week our question is about homework. Specifically, what's the difference between high school and university homework?

I don't know if I'm a great one to answer this question since I'm a dog and I just tend to eat homework. However, our blogger Michael has a great answer to this question!

Ask Hunter: Visiting campus

Posted by Hunter the Ridgeback on October 23, 2015 at 4:00 PM

Happy Friday future Ridgebacks!

As we've discussed before, the best way to choose a university is to visit the campus! There's just something about feeling at home on campus that will reassure you of your choice!

I knew that UOIT was the place for me as soon as I saw all the space where I could play fetch. Also the tour guides take me on lots and lots of walks. Those were all the reasons I needed to choose UOIT but I've been told that students need a bit more than that.

That's why I hope you come to our Open House on Saturday, November 7! Here's some of what will be waiting for you:

How to narrow down your university choice

Posted by Hunter the Ridgeback on October 9, 2015 at 10:59 AM

Hello future Ridgebacks!

It's getting closer to that time of year where students start applying to university. And that's tough! One of the most popular question I get asked is: "Help! How do I decide which university to go to?"

If you're like many students, you've gone to the Ontario Universities' Fair or University Information Program, met with university recruiters at your high school and taken home lots and lots of viewbooks. So, now what? How do you possibly narrow it down?
