Before coming to UOIT...

Posted by Sara Stephen on April 24, 2017 at 11:58 AM

I applied to university on the very last day you could apply. I was in the middle of gym class during my semester victory lap in high school. I had just turned 18 and the majority of my friends had already completed their first semester of university or college. I’ll never forget walking into my advisor’s office and being super unprepared to apply; we had to call my mom and get her credit card number to pay for my application.

UOIT Alumni Spotlight: Andrew Morari

Posted by Sara Stephen on January 24, 2017 at 7:46 PM

Sometimes it's tough to know what program you should choose when it comes to applying to or accepting an offer from a university. Hearing from graduates is a great way to get the low-down on what a program was like, and where that grad is now.

To give incoming students some perspective on the Faculty of Business and Information Technology and the Networking and Information Technology Security program, I sat down with Andrew Morari, an alumnus who graduated from UOIT in 2012, and who is currently working as a Senior Consultant in marketing automation technology at Mass Engines.

I asked Andrew to tell me about his experience at UOIT and how his education impacted his career and gave him the tools for success in his field.

UOIT Spotlight: Deborah Saucier, Provost

Posted by Sara Stephen on October 26, 2016 at 5:55 PM

Dr. Deborah Saucier has been the Provost and Vice-President, Academic since 2011. The Provost is an essential member of the senior staff here at UOIT, responsible for any institutional planning and administration – and even serving as the Acting President, in his absence. The primary responsibility for the Provost is to create a positive environment and to maintain the atmosphere that makes UOIT so exceptional.

Dr. Saucier has had the past five years to take her experience and knowledge and apply it to the growth and success of UOIT. The passion for making UOIT great radiated during our interview, especially when I inquired about why she relocated from Alberta to join the UOIT team.

UOIT Spotlight: President Tim McTiernan

Posted by Sara Stephen on September 30, 2016 at 3:48 PM

Ever wonder what kind of advice the President of UOIT would give to first-year students? I got the chance to ask, and here is what President Tim McTiernan had to say.

“Don’t panic. Keep on top of your assignments, and ask for help if you think you need help. People are there waiting to lend you a hand."

Dr. Tim McTiernan is from Kilkenny, Ireland where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Philosophy at Trinity College, followed by a Master of Arts degree and PhD in Psychology from the University of British Columbia. He has an impressive resumé filled with experience many academics dream of, such as obtaining credentials from both Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
